Digital X-Ray
Digital x-rays are quickly becoming adopted by a large percentage of the dental industry. A digital x-ray allows the dentist to take an image of the tooth or teeth and put it into an imaging program. Within this imaging program, there are a number of tools that will allow the dentist to take a very close look at the teeth and surrounding structures with amazing accuracy. As a benefit to the patient, the digital x-ray also provides nearly 80% less radiation than a standard x-ray. This is due to the fact that the digital version of the x-ray is much more sensitive to this radiation and has been specifically designed with the patient in mind.
The Dental Microscope
Visualization is a very important part of endodontic therapy. The microscope enables us to see into the tooth and down the canals. Finding canals and treating them is made that much easier with this important tool.
Apex Locators
In order to know where we end our cleaning, shaping and filling of the root canal, we must know the length of each root we treat. The apex locator enables us to find that measurement without using an x-ray. They are highly accurate electronic devices that improve the quality of the final root canal treatment.

Ultrasonic Handpieces
This type of handpiece enables the endodontist to remove posts and impediments to the completion of the root canal. In addition, they help to find and negotiate calcified canals. These units are also used in cases when microsurgical intervention is indicated. Our operatories are equipped with these sophisticated ultrasonic units. The diamond coated microscopic tips vibrate up to 25,000 cycles per second to insure accurate and speedy preparation.
BC RRM-Fast Set Putty
Formulated with superior healing properties, BC RRM-Fast Set Putty is highly biocompatible, has an extremely antibacterial pH balance of +12, and is osteogenic, making it the ideal solution for all pulp capping and root repair procedures.
Brassler BC Sealer
Unlike conventional base/catalyst sealers, BC Sealer™ utilizes the moisture naturally present in the dentinal tubules to initiate its setting reaction. This Hydrophillic sealer forms hydroxyapatite upon setting and chemically bonds to dentin. BC Sealer is anti-bacterial during setting due to its highly alakaline pH and unlike traditional sealers, BC Sealer exhibits absolutely zero shrinkage.
Mineral Trioxide Aggregate or MTA
A hydrophilic ceramic material that is a relatively new advancement in endodontic treatment. Dr. Mann uses MTA for pulp capping, resorption repairs, perforation repairs, root end filling during surgical treatment, and apical plug during apexification. Current literature supports its use as a biocompatible material with excellent resistance to leakage.
Electric Handpieces
The new electric handpieces used for root canal treatment are virtually silent making it a more pleasurable experience. They are used to clean and shape the canals in the tooth. They are more efficient and faster than older methods. These handpieces are designed to be used with nickel titanium rotary instruments.
Nickel-Titanium Rotary Instruments
Cleaning and shaping of the root canal is aided by the use of metal instruments made of a unique alloy of nickel-titanium. These instruments are stronger and more flexible than stainless steel instruments which are hand instruments. We use both rotary and hand instruments along with a liquid antimicrobial agent, chlorine, to help remove bacteria and tissue in the root canal.
